Omnifone

Omnifone’s multi-award winning MusicStation solution allows major device vendors, mobile operators and broadband providers to deliver a next generation unlimited music experience to their customers. Consumers have the freedom to download, play and share unlimited amounts of music, wherever they are, whenever they want.

Solving the barrier to mass-market digital adoption

Traditional digital music services offer the consumer the ability to purchase individual tracks in a DRM-free or DRM-protected format. Meanwhile, a consumer’s existing music collection, which may be on CD, vinyl and/or cassette, has to be side-loaded or the music repurchased. New music tracks must be purchased before they can be played, hampering the process of music discovery, and playlist sharing.

Unsurprisingly, the migration to digital is painful and cumbersome, and many consumers have failed to embrace digital music services fully, leading to a dramatic decline in global music revenues. Meanwhile, key target demographics, particularly the critical 18-35 age group, have resorted to illegal file sharing services in order to be able to discover or try new music easily and cost-effectively.

Unlimited music for the masses

MusicStation allows unlimited music discovery, downloads, playing and sharing, on a mass market basis and on a wide range of devices, heralding a new phase for digital music. Whether MusicStation is offered on mobile, on desktop, or on a dedicated home entertainment system, it allows a consumer immediate unlimited access to millions of tracks, any time, any place. Furthermore, a MusicStation user’s experience automatically synchronises effortlessly across devices and platforms, without wires or human intervention.

Key MusicStation partners include major manufacturers, such as LG and Sony Ericcson as well as major mobile networks, such as Vodafone, Telenor and Hutchison. MusicStation is the fully interoperable cross-platform solution that will power an open and unlimited future for digital music services.

$3.3bn Juniper Research Forecast for unlimited music revenues by 2012

Market research

Market research shows unlimited propositions, such as unlimited music phone services, to be very popular with consumers. In a recent survey, nearly 50% of European mobile phone users said they would switch to a new phone with an integrated unlimited music solution. Meanwhile, more than 80% of existing MusicStation consumers report they have recommended the service to friends and family. Unsurprisingly, Juniper Research predicts the success of unlimited music services like MusicStation will significantly grow digital music revenues globally, with subscription based unlimited digital music overtaking first generation Pay Per Track services, to be worth $3.3bn US by 2012.
