A platform to integrate any device and bring
cross-device features to all your devices.
Cloud-based tools for cross-device features
We live in an age of phenomenal device proliferation with today’s music users demanding a coordinated view of their music experience across a multitude of devices. Users want a single view of their collection, favourites, playlists, history, friends and tastes - synchronised through the cloud, accessible across a broad range of devices.
MusicStation has all the tools you need to achieve the dream of deploying cross-device, cloud-based music applications. This highly device-aware network platform services and synchronises more device types than any other. Combating the challenges of this multi-device world has never been so simple.
Living in a device storm
There’s an astonishing number of device types that today’s user expects to connect to their music service. There are mobile phones, laptops, tablets, TVs, MP3 players, PCs, Macs, living-room & handheld game platforms, Blu-ray players, hi-fi, set-top-boxes and even cars.
Many manufacturers make multiple versions of each device type and use many different operating systems with different release levels. This leads to many thousands of variations in behaviour across a wide set of critical features given the explosion of device implementations.
Dealing with these challenges requires a highly device-aware platform equipped with mature cross-device features, tuned over many years of deployments. The seasoned MusicStation platform is packed with device intelligence and cross-device capability. Unrivalled qualifications in a world of device proliferation.
A cloud full of features
MusicStation supports many smart cloud-connected features enabling cross-device music applications. The platform keeps a sophisticated cloud-based user profile containing a user’s library, friends, favourites and playlists - accessible from any of their devices. Updates to the user profile automatically appear on every device.
Lost your phone? No problem, just reconnect a new phone and your entire experience will be resynchronised from the master record in the cloud. Want to switch from one device to another mid song? Cross-device continual play can be seamlessly supported via track position beaconing. Same goes for keeping the context of a channel you are currently listening to.
Licensing rules can allow multi-device access but require you to keep track of single sign-on and to manage simultaneous device playback. These features are naturally part of the package, just configure the rules you require. It’s all part of the MusicStation platform.
Right format. Right protocol.
Streaming allows near instant playback of music. Download and play takes longer to start, but songs are cached on device for subsequent plays and offline access. Progressive download delivers the best of both worlds. MusicStation has all these content delivery modes built-in and support for HTTP, HTTPs (SSL), RTMP(e) and the latest HLS communications protocols. Providing the ultimate method for every device.
The combination of device audio compatibility and available bandwidth automatically drives the appropriate choice of music format. High-end audio devices connected to ultra-fast broadband can benefit from superb studio-quality lossless HD audio. Small mobile phones connected on slow mobile networks require carefully engineered, highly compressed formats such as Dolby Pulse (24kbps eAAC+).
MusicStation supports a huge range of audio formats, bit rates, delivery protocols and container formats - automatically chosen for the device or selected by the end-user. No other platform comes close to this breadth of cross-device audio support.

In a plane and on the subway
Users expect unlimited music services on phones, tablets and laptops to store downloaded music for offline playback. Audio stored on devices needs to be protected by a music label approved content protection mechanism or DRM. Unfortunately there is no standard cross-device DRM solution and different devices support different DRMs.
To counter this challenge MusicStation has all the popular DRMs built into the platform. It seamlessly deals with the delivery of the correct DRM format to the correct device without the user having to make complex choices. All of the top DRMs are supported including Microsoft PlayReady, Windows DRM, Marlin, OMA and Omnifone’s own label approved OmniPlay. Supporting offline playback across a variety has never been easier.
Connecting devices has never been easier
Different devices require different techniques to connect them to a cloud-based music service. MusicStation provides a number of device-optimised APIs enabling rapid device integration and a wealth of capabilities.
Mars is a rich and flexible device-resident API for portable devices. It provides the ‘plumbing layer’ and allows developers to focus on building UIs by leveraging a powerful cloud-connected media middleware.
Warp is MusicStation’s native RESTful web service protocol. With nearly 300 API methods and features, Warp is the feature-rich easy way to connect virtually any device to the music cloud.
For those devices that cannot support a native Mars middleware and cannot construct RESTful web calls, there is the WarpProxy. This intelligent integration proxy talks the device’s protocol on the device side and translates to Warp on the cloud side. Whichever device you want to connect, MusicStation has the ultimate device API for you.
