Mobile World Congress, Barcelona 13 February 2008 - Omnifone, which provides
unlimited music download services in partnership with major mobile network operators
such as Vodafone UK, Telenor, Hutchison Telecom and Vodacom, has won Best Mobile
Music Service Award for its revolutionary unlimited downloads service, MusicStation, at the
13th Annual Global Mobile Awards in Barcelona.
The awards, the most prestigious in the mobile industry calendar, are part of the world’s
biggest mobile industry event, Mobile World Congress 2008.
“We are very proud to receive the Global Mobile Award’s Best Mobile Music Service Award
and this is a momentous achievement for Omnifone, exactly a year after we launched,”
said Rob Lewis, CEO of Omnifone. “As a pioneer of unlimited music downloads we are
honoured that MusicStation is now recognised as the world’s best mobile music service.
It’s been a fantastic first year for Omnifone with MusicStation now live across three
continents and a new subscriber joining every minute.”
“MusicStation means a fundamental change to the way people experience music on their
phones,” said Al Russell, Head of Mobile Internet and Content Services of Vodafone UK. “Ever since Vodafone UK launched MusicStation in September last year, customer feedback
has been overwhelmingly positive. High usage of the service clearly demonstrates that
Vodafone customers really enjoy unlimited access to millions of tracks on a wide range of
Vodafone’s music handsets.”
"MusicStation is the best digital music service available on mobile today. Omnifone has
done more to change the way people will consume music on mobile than any other digital
music service provider and it deserves to win this award,” said Rob Wells, SVP, Digital,
Universal Music Group International. “We look forward to working with Omnifone to make
unlimited music downloads a reality for millions of mobile users across the world."
Announced just 12 months ago at 3GSM World Congress 2007, MusicStation is the first
digital music service providing unlimited music downloads over the mobile data network to
virtually all music mobiles for small weekly fee of €2.99 (or local equivalent) including data
charges or bundled free into operator price-plans.
Global Mobile Award judges voted for Omnifone over nominations from AT&T Mobility:
AT&T Mobile Music, Bharti Airtel: Airtel Live music on Demand, PCCW Mobile HK: MOOV on
mobile, Shazam Entertainment: Shazam iD.

About MusicStation
MusicStation is an unlimited music download service that will run on virtually all
2.5G/3G/HSDPA music compatible mobiles. MusicStation provides a virtually
identical next generation community based user experience across all
manufacturer handsets. Built-in networked functions provide the ability to make
friends, build and share playlists and individual tracks with other mobile users
and receive music news and recommendations based on player behaviour using
collaborative filtering and nearest neighbour technology.
MusicStation stores downloaded tracks on the phone's internal or removable
memory and these and the related meta-data are fully backed up so that if a
user’s mobile is stolen, lost or upgraded, the replacement handset will
automatically restore the customer’s music, playlists, friends and references to
the replacement handset. MusicStation users can listen to downloaded tracks
when in Flight Safe mode and have unlimited access to the full catalogue when
connected to a 2.5G/3G/HSDPA network.
