Powered by Omnifone’s MusicStation platform, BlackBerry’s BBM Music was the first ever music
service that enabled users to build and share their evolving, community-based music library amongst
their BBM Music friends.
Working with all major and independent record
labels, Omnifone pioneered the unique business
model that enabled viral music discovery.
Mix music and friends
BlackBerry’s cloud-based BBM Music service enabled users to share up to 50 of their favourite songs with their BBM friends via the BBM network. Tracks could be selected from a catalogue of millions of tracks and users could change up to 25 tracks per month.
The size of a user’s music library grew as new friends joined their BBM community and shared their libraries. Users could also playback tracks in offline mode.
Music made social
Users could comment on their friends’ songs and playlists, create multiple playlists from music within their friends’ profiles, and even see which friend contributed each song while it played.
Blackberry’s BBM Music increased user involvement over time, organically growing the service through word-of-mouth within the BBM community.
BBM Music remains one of the most innovative services Omnifone has developed.
